Year In Review: 2016
Dec. 31st, 2016 12:52 pmYour main fandom of the year? The Movie Which Shall Not Be Named, but still. It's dead and I'm still emotionally invested and I love it. dead fandoms are ideal tbqh
Your favorite film you watched this year? Tied between Kimi No Na Wa and Now You See Me 2... if I absolutely had to pick, probably Kimi No Na Wa; but NYSM2 has a lot of things I'm just utterly trash for so it's really a guilty pleasure fave. I LIKE IT A LOT OKAY. But yeah also Kimi No Na Wa (thanks Cathy)
Your favorite book read this year? I did not read any books this year but is anyone really surprised. Actually that's a lie I did reread Magic By The Lake (and I meant to reread the rest of the Tales of Magic but... forgot oops) and the first chapter of the first book in All The Wrong Questions and... skimmed some books... I'll read more soon I promise.
Your favorite tv show of the year? Didn't I rewatch all of Psych this year? Yeah. And B99 as usual. Jeopardy??? Family Feud??? As you can tell I have an excellent memory and varied interests.
Your best new fandom discovery of the year? Hermione Granger's Hogwarts Crammer For Delinquents On The Run is probably the first WIP in a long time that I've read and am actively invested in (I haven't finished the new chapter yet because that means it'll be closer to being finished for me) and bless that fic, really.
I also love discovering letterboxd! Finally time to indulge my love for movies :B There's also been an incredible output of music this year.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year? Ethnocentrism and belittlement of kids' comfort on the internet.
Your biggest squee moment of the year? Meeting a lot of fandom friends IRL, especially
necessarian(?!) I also watched a lot of movies, which are all logged on letterboxd... not all of them since I started using it in March, but a significant amount anyway.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the coming year? New music, as always. Music rarely lets me down.

Overall Thoughts
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? This is actually kind of a general average (~200k) which is interesting because I felt like I wrote less than I usually do, but I didn't. Which is a nice revelation! I've been actually pretty reluctant to do this meme because I didn't want to confront my lack of productivity this year but I guess my energy has been pretty consistent. I have a lot of WIPs though.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Absolutely none, all of these were completely predictable for me.
What’s your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? I think a purveyor of tragedy... It's pretty thorough and second person and I think more ~original (as in unique in storytelling/plot) than what I usually write.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Well I tried to force myself back into writing the past tense but it... did not work well... It's so bizarre that present tense has become my new comfort zone but I'm not really complaining P:
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year? No? Yes? Mostly I'm concerned about getting my mental health on track especially since all the stuff that's happened this/for the last year, so.
My goals from last year were:
- I DID IT!
- I'm starting to do this more regularly P:
- I love my friends
- LMAO RIP......

From my past year of writing, what was…
My best story of this year: Either The Seasons Ahead or a purveyor of tragedy, I think? I think That Nothing Can Tear is also really good, but I also just might be biased.
My most popular story of this year: Does The Courting of Draco Malfoy count???? I published and wrote it in 2011 but the attention for it shot up SO MUCH cuz someone drew art of it, hehe ;v; According to AO3, though, it's Due Season but I won't count it since it was initially posted in 2015, so by all technicalities it's Glow P:
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: we are for each other then, FEMSLASH GENDERSWAP LONGFIC, indulge me,
Most fun story to write: f'd in the b(asketball)
Story with the single sexiest moment: One of my SWAG fics... probably either the Ushijima/Hinata or the Tanaka/Nishinoya.
Most “Holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story: I wrote dragonfruitfucking, fishfucking, and masturbating to a bike. I do this a lot.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Glow made me realize that I like writing daisuga more than I thought.
Hardest story to write: to sing of the damage
Biggest Surprise: TNCT got a weirdly large amount of reception? I think it's because of the soulmate tag but it still surprised me, haha.
In conclusion: I wrote a lot more WIPs than focusing on completing stuff, which is fine! Plus since considering how the last half of this year considered (public figure deaths, personal deaths, the election) I don't really mind either way with how things turned out. This hasn't been an actively productive year, but one of these days I'll stop basing my self-worth on being productive... or just be more productive, hah.
{ 2017 will be the year I- }
- I haven't decided on goals yet for 2017 but if/when I do I'll put them here :B

The exhaustion is like an itch, peeling under his skin, making him want to scratch it. He wakes up every morning and eats, feeds his pokémon (except for excadrill, who has always been good at finding his own food), showers once a day. His mother always looks at him with sad eyes; he thought he would've been prepared for this.
As the days go on, being around her is stifling. She does not even say much, so the guilt festering in his stomach gets even worse. He avoids her eyes when they make small talk over lunches and dinners; sometimes he wishes he had not come back. That the trashcan in his room would remain empty and unused instead of holding the water bottles he's been tossing in lately, that the dust settles so deep in his room until it lives there instead of him.

There are studies on the human response to them, the hiding, the secrets because we want to experience that love. Nobody wants to expose it. Everyone has the hope that, despite fifty-two percent, the person who we are supposed to love will love us back, with all they have, unconditionally. We all wait, and wait, and wait for that love, to grab us and shake us like a hurricane, to never let us go.)

Look, maybe you had always been in love with him in school and had thought nothing would come of it, because he was always looking in the other direction, at Facebook, at his computer, at not you. Maybe you were in love with the way his back sloped under your palm, brief but memorable, had his schedule memorized because you wanted to catalogue all the times during the day and night and weird winks in the morning when you could see him blinking at you, realizing he had fallen asleep at his desk, and you couldn’t say much because you had fallen asleep on his bed. You don’t remember the smell of his pillowcase or the angle of his calves when you switch places, when he curls up and you head to the door, ready to leave. You don’t linger by the doorway to watch him, you waited up when you told him you were, and it was never a surprise. Maybe you never loved him in the first place; never would.

“Mark?”
“Yeah,” Mark said quietly.
“You said you’d come up with something,” Eduardo reminded him gently.
“Yeah, I… think I’ve come up with something,” said Mark. “Come outside.”
“It’s twenty degrees outside.”
“I can’t stare at that loop of Niagara Falls,” Mark glanced toward behind the DJ, “which has absolutely nothing to do with the Caribbean.” He started back towards the entrance.
Eduardo chuckled before following him.
The noise dropped into the distance as they slunk out into the November nighttime. From the single lamp above the door, yellow light washed over the brick wall and onto them. Mark made his way up the few steps to lean against the building. Both his hands were in his pockets. Eduardo joined him, tucking his collar up, breath ghosting in front of his face.

Without looking at her, Eduardo says, "Great." She shoves the door open, throwing her bag to the ground, taking her suit jacket off and scrunching her nose at the ruined fabric in disgust. Her white shirt underneath is see-through and damp. Mark's mouth goes dry.
Eduardo glances at her. "Can you get me a towel?" she asks, like they didn't just spend the past several minutes yelling at each other.
Mark does, getting one from the bathroom and tossing it at Eduardo. Eduardo catches it and dries herself off. "Fuck, this is going to be," she's muttering to herself, yanking her pants down.
Mark quickly exits the room.

- in our younger years we were skin and blood
Eduardo spins, grapples Mark's arms, surges forward. The clack of their teeth echo in the acoustics of the room, making clear the space between them and the walls. Them and the world. Everything is spinning and everything is not because it is just them and their mouths and their hands,
hands scrabbling, fumbling, mouths, lips, tongue, teeth,
the slight way Mark pants into Eduardo's mouth, Eduardo prying Mark's zipper open without prying their lips apart,
trying so fucking hard that his teeth are digging into Mark's bottom lip and Mark does not whine, but
there's a little bit of,
Eduardo licks the red off,

Mark sat down next to her. She began taking her socks off, and Eduardo watched her.(from a wip!)
Mark said, "What?"
"Nothing, it's just…" Eduardo actually smirked. "You're wearing socks with sandals."
"So?"
Eduardo shook her head. "Nothing, nothing." When she turned away, the smirk remained on her face.
Mark put her feet in the water, and then nudged Eduardo very pointedly. "It's definitely not nothing," she said. "You're judging my fashion choices, aren't you?"
Eduardo grinned at her with a twinkle in her eye. "Maybe a little."
"At least I don't wear pantsuits in high school every day."
October: 1
- a purveyor of tragedy, and all the things that follow
In the morning, they are both in the kitchen, laughing over coffee. You always hated coffee, preferred something with sugar like Mountain Dew or Red Bull. (When you were still in high school, your dad, who’s a dentist, tried to get you to stop the habit. If he couldn’t, no one could.) You, also already awake, bounce the rubber band ball that had originally been Dustin’s before it was yours before it was hers. They ignore you.
“All I can cook is breakfast food,” she’s saying, and there’s the sound of cupboard doors opening. “Like pancakes.”
“You’re in luck. I like pancakes,” he says.
Since you are sitting opposite them, facing away from the kitchen doorway, you imagine her turning around and smiling. She had walked out in a white button-up that looks too big for her, that can’t be hers, and it infuriates you at how good she looks in it.
“You like most things, don’t you?” she says to Eduardo, who laughs so loudly he had to have thrown his head back, with his long, golden, stupid neck.
“Untrue! I dislike spiders, and also stepping on wet surfaces while wearing socks,” he says.
“Well you’re in luck, because I think spiders are cute,” says Erica. You already know this. “But no one likes wet socks.”
“No one should like spiders, either,” Eduardo says pointedly.

Lillie smiles at her brother. “It’s good to see you again, too,” she says earnestly.
“Yeah, you too,” says Gladion. Then he shoots her a smile, and you. “Did you have fun at Kanto?” he asks Lillie. “Did it remind you a lot of her?” He glances at you.
You roll your eyes, cheeks warm, and try to step on Gladion’s foot. (You miss.) “ Gladion --”
“Yes, it did,” Lillie says earnestly, and you look at her. She’s just smiling in her brother’s direction, though. “It was really wonderful, I--” she turns to you, “I feel like I understand you better,” she says to you.
“It’s just a country,” you remind her.
“It’s your country,” she points out.
