—YULETIDE 2018: DEAR CREATOR
Dear Yuletide author! Hello! I'm sorry this is a little later than I promised (if you've checked daily since assignments came out; if not, then pretend I've been ready all this time) but I hope it still gives you enough time to write something we both end up liking :)
My most general request is a happy ending; for Karin/Blue, I'd accept a bittersweet-more-sweet ending as well.
I have a lot of general likes and dislikes; feel free to nab any concepts from a list of my likes and disregard a larger portion of this letter, as I'm pretty easy to please. This letter will mostly focus on any specific requests for the specific pairing/fandom in question, if you'd rather go a more specific route, plus other little things I might appreciate on the side.
I can't really think of any hard DNWs for Yuletide this year; my only request would be no pwp, although porn with plot (or rather, plot with porn) is perfectly fine. If you want to make me especially thirsty, feel free to check out my kinks.
I'm going to continue to request The Social Network until it stops qualifying for Yuletide, and it's never too late for me to get emotional about them. My favorite favorite type of fic for them is basically the standard post-canon fix-it fic - because I like canon compliant happy endings, and with how it ended, well, how could I not want an endless supply of fic where they make up and get together in the end?
However, for a post-canon fix-it, I'd want it to be more than just a "we apologize together and start to be friends again and then develop feelings/begin to act on our past more-than-platonic feelings for each other." Nah, I want another driving force, a catalyst or a less than canon background that adds an edge to more than just a make-up-and-get-together fic. Like, what if they're vampires? What if Eduardo's friend is dating Mark's assistant? What if Mark spies on Eduardo? What if they're in a human sex slave universe? What if they have daemons? What if they meet in a gay bar and end up sleeping together and it ends up fucking up a lot of stuff? What if Spiderwardo, because that never gets old? Or what if... you come up with something more clever and interesting than anything I suggested?
My other fanfic love is canon divergence - I love reading fic about how making one choice different from canon can start a butterfly effect of a whole new narrative. If you already have an idea for this that you'd really want to write, I say go for it! - but if not, consider this: Palo Alto era AU. As in, AU/canon divergent of The Summer when Mark & Dustin & the interns go out to California, and Eduardo goes to New York for his internship/ad execs. AUs of this are always fascinating to me because it's during the rise of Facebook but not quite to the point where it'd be considered famous yet; where Eduardo is still in Mark's pocket, where they still trust each other, but the foundations of their canonical rift begins. Both of them are boys trying to be adults in the real world during this time; it's a transition phase that I love to see played with and exploited.
And there's a whole litany of divergences you can play with in this time period: what if Sean never finds Mark and Facebook does have to rely on Eduardo's penchant for advertisements? Or what if Eduardo gets that stick out of his ass and decides to stay in California for Mark and Facebook? What if they worked harder to see each other over the summer despite being on opposite ends of the country? What if Mark doesn't move Facebook out to California, and he stays on the east coast instead? What if sometime during the summer Eduardo suddenly disappears and is unreachable and Mark gets worried out of his mind being unable to contact Eduardo? There's so much here! Go wild!
Other things that I like, that you can take into minute consideration or as prompts on their own, are chess nerd Eduardo and weather nerd Eduardo. Eduardo is my favorite TSN character, and I really like it when he's not depicted as emotional and motherly and sensitive... obviously not that there's anything wrong with that, but I read him as being more rational and image-focused/slightly domineering and just more emotionally mature than Mark, although that's not much of a feat anyway.
Plot-wise, I also like established relationship drama. Or whacky crossovers with anything else that I like, if you can manage that.
Side notes:
- If there is penetrative sex, I prefer Eduardo as the top.
- If Christy is in your fic, please don't write her out to be 'crazy' or villainize her.
- Casual weed usage = good.
- I love the fact that this movie takes place in 2003/2004/2007 (depositions), so weirdly time-accurate details would be incredible. Like fliphones and blackberrys. Like Mapquest.
blue/karin
- plot w side romance, pseudocanon/au but not canon pls (bees in ears = me in fear D:)
- i really like their dynamic where they respect each other's talents/intelligence and position (in that karin is technically in charge of blue so blue respects her but karin doesn't belittle blue/treats her as an equal while knowing she's not) and GOD at the end of the ep where they're the only ones still lookin for the dude together like they are WIVES i love them
- spy au? rival spies? field agent/intelligence partner?
- another black mirror au? (e.g. nosedive au, entire history of you au, merits au, SAN JUNIPERO AU, but all the sadder ones with like happy blue/karin stuff)
