--YULETIDE 2017: DEAR CREATOR

Hello Yuletide author! I'm excited for whatever you write me - I'm sure that no matter what, I'll enjoy whatever you make for me, since we matched. All my requests are specifically shippy, which I hope you don't mind.

LIKES & DISLIKES

As I do for most of my dear creator letters, here are some things I generally like and dislike (and that are somewhat relevant to all my fandoms listed):

Like:
- romance with external gen/friendship undertones
- meta
- competitive characters/rivalry
- slice-of-life drug use without social commentary on legalization et al
- post-canon

Dislike:
- space AUs, royalty AUs, intense scifi or fantasy worldbuilding AUs
- teacher/student AU (even in university)
- soulmate/mark
- gay angst/sexuality crisis/coming out narratives/homophobia as a conflict or plot
- for this exchange, I would not like pwp, please

Kinks: (if smut is involved)
you can view them here

BLACK MIRROR

It's entirely likely that even though Kelly/Yorkie is the BM OTP, I... might be invested in Karin/Blue a bit more. Probably because they're not canon and I'm masochistic like that?

Anyway, what I really like about them is that they're partners and work splendidly well together, but Karin is the definite hard-headed no-nonsense one while Blue is much more prone to her feelings and sympathy. (Since I'm an MBTI nerd, I type Karin as an INTJ and Blue as an ISFP.) Karin clearly cares for Blue while Blue openly admires Karin; and that twist at the end where Karin covers for her when they're still working together because they are partner girlfriends in love who do badass things together!!!!!

My main request is that if you've matched me on Black Mirror (or are reading this for Treat reasons), I would prefer the fic to be AU. I know one of my general likes is post-canon, but Karin/Blue/Hated in the Nation is my one exception to this on the requests. I mean, on top of the canonverse to be fucking depressing, I would love their dynamic being explored in a different setting - and romantically. (Sex is cool too.) Preferably where they're still adults (rather than a school AU of some sort) - a different career? BDSM 'verse? (In which case I might be partial to bottom!Blue, but if you can make bottom!Karin work then I'd love it too.) Something as gritty and plotty as Hated in the Nation but still different on its own? I'll leave the nature of the AU up to you, as long as it doesn't take place in the horrific robotic bees-'verse.

(As much as I love Karin/Blue, that whole bit with the bees crawling into people's ears gave me nightmares.)

THE SOCIAL NETWORK

TSN has unfailingly been the fandom I've been the most invested in recently, so if you're writing this, it's almost guaranteed that you have my hand in marriage. Eduardo is my favorite character, and Mark is the trashbaby that I love writing/reading about, and the pairing of them being best-friends-turned-enemies makes Mark/Eduardo the OTP I've always dreamed of.

I love the story of canon already, so if you'd like to write an AU - which I'm not adverse to - I would prefer it to be a relationship story, or at least not have any elements of it parallel Facebook/the dilution. But my big weakness is the canon plot, so I would dig fusion elements too without a wholly different story between them being different. Some fusion ideas I'd really like are:
• vampire!Eduardo
• werewolf!Eduardo
• omegaverse
• BDSM'verse
• mundane superpowers

But - maybe not most of all, but like everyone else, what I enjoy just as much - is a good old post-canon reconciliation fic, where Mark is apologetic for hurting Eduardo's feelings but maybe not as much for cutting him out of the company, because I always interpreted the dilution to be an emotionless business decision on Mark's end, and a mistake that Eduardo had made out of his own naivety. (for the record I'm not making excuses for Mark, it's just how I always interpreted his end of the debacle.) I'm down with hatesex, angst, both Mark and Eduardo doing morally questionable stuff, bad decisions, Mark being a little shit, cats, Eduardo moving on with his life and not (never) needing Mark's approval, and established relationship drama. Or not-so-established relationship drama.

Other TSN tropey things I love: Spiderwardo, good friend!Sean, Harvard era hookup fic, Chris and Dustin being good friends, and crime/morally aligned syndicate AUs. I also really enjoy it when more negative aspects of Eduardo are explored, since the movie depicts him as the heartbroken best friend that I find it really interesting when he's still in character but just as much of an asshole as Mark, or dark (I adore dark!Eduardo. And badass!Eduardo), and it kind of shows that Eduardo is not emotionally dependent on Mark, that he has far more self-preservation than other people may think, and can - and regularly makes decisions not based on emotions.

And since I'm apparently mentioning MBTI in this letter, if you want to know how I interpret their characters (although I already waxed poetic about Eduardo), I type Mark as an INTP and Eduardo as an ESTP.

And I hate to do this, but if you're doing something porny, I would prefer top!Eduardo and bottom!Mark.

NOW YOU SEE ME

God, this movie series. The NYSM series is my trashy guilty pleasure - NYSM2 especially, which I've watched too many times on HBO and loved every time.

I would love, love heist!fic AU for this - not canonverse, but an AU where the Horsemen are a mafia or a crime syndicate or something. But if that's not something you feel that you can do or pull off, I'd also enjoy:
• roadtrip fic
real magic AU (not a Hogwarts/different-universe AU, though - where either Dylan or Atlas (preferably Atlas) accidentally gets real magic, or where they all already have magical powers woven into canon)
• cop AU I guess (with Dylan and Atlas as bickering partners)
• if you can weave accidental or of convenience marriage into post-canon somehow, I applaud you and would also love it

All of these involving all the Horsemen, of course. While my request is Dylan/Atlas - which I'll get to later - one of my favorite things about the movies (aside from the fun magic and campy narratives!) is the friendship between the five of them, in the sequel especially. Six, if you want to include Henley (and if you wanted to slide in side Henley/Lula too, I will kiss you. But Jack/Lula is cute too.) They're a ragtag team of bandits who argue a lot and I love seeing them get into shenanigans together, try to work their way out of them, fail a lot, and then have some sort of successful teamwork in the end.

But on Dylan/Atlas - this ship didn't come to me until the second movie, so if you haven't seen it yet, I advise you to watch it to fully experience the dynamic I love! While the first movie heralds Dylan at the end as the mastermind/leader of the group, the big Mystery of the movie, the sequel explores how all of them interact with this knowledge now integrated into their group. And this is especially difficult for Atlas, who's a control freak (an ENTJ) and refuses to defer to Dylan, and constantly pushes himself upward to force Dylan to see the two of them as equals. And I think for Dylan, he in the beginning sees himself not only as the leader but as the mentor for all of them, but when he runs into Atlas when Atlas is about to deliver the chip, and later when Atlas saves his life (!!!!), Dylan stops feeling responsible for them as a mentor and starts feeling responsible for them as a friend.

What I would really like to see explored about the Dylan/Atlas dynamic is that despite Dylan's best efforts to mentor them, and Atlas's efforts to defect and Be The Special One Instead, ultimately both of them work best together as equals, partners. There's a power struggle there - Atlas always wants to be in control, and Dylan (an ESTJ) always wants things to go to plan. Atlas sees Dylan being their leader but not having any power over them, and Dylan probably sees Atlas as his protege, except not one that blindly takes orders, but - again - like a cop partner. I would love any and all situations where they have to trust each other, especially with their lives, where they both get along and butt heads but would ultimately die for each other. That's the good shit.

The only thing I absolutely do not want for NYSM/Dylan/Atlas specifically is on-screen sex. If they're going to bang, I would prefer for it to fade to black or be casually alluded to.

GOBLIN

So, I actually need to finish watching this. But I already know what I like about Goblin/Reaper, so if you want to thread all of canon/possible end spoilers along with it, that's fine! I'll probably finish it by the time Yuletide works are revealed, but my requests and likes are very abstract, so you don't have to worry about me updating this before you can work on this fic, if this is the fandom you've opted to write for.

Goblin/Reaper is the classic immortal foeyay that has had enough UST to literally last for centuries. I totally yelled when Reaper began living with Goblin, and I think it would be really fun - sexy - interesting - if they had hatesexy hookups during this, drunken or otherwise. A relationship story exploring both their domesticity and their rivalry would be ideal, how they don't consider each other as friends necessarily but have to acknowledge that despite that, they are actually probably friends.

(Accidental?) Matchmaker Euntak would be cute too! Not necessarily from her POV, but her just being a really good friend to the both of them - Kim Shin especially - and realizing that they have feelings for each other and giggling to herself about it. Overall I would like something with a strong focus on how the Goblin and the Reaper bicker and have to work together and reluctantly appreciate each other anyway - and more, because they are just in denial about their feelings. Plus hatebanging. That would be nice.

And hey, you know what would be fun? Fake dating and/or accidental marriage :D

My MBTI typings for them are the Goblin as an ENTJ and the Reaper as an ESTP.

THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN

You know, I was personally offended when Krista/Nadine didn't happen. I mean, I knew it wouldn't, but the whole kid flashback thing where they were both caterpillar mommies, and I was just like, um, make them girlfriends please.

Canon childhood best friends aren't usually my thing... for slash and het ships. For femslash, I'm totally all over that. I think it's because the closeness of girls in real life is rarely questioned as anything other than platonic, even though there's a lot of anecdotal evidence that many girls have experimented and have had feelings for their girl friends when they were younger and had thought these feelings were normally platonic when they were clearly so much more.

So on that, I think it would be a really cool canon AU where instead of the major conflict being Krista dating Nadine's brother (which, honestly, I rolled my eyes at), it could be something with them experimenting with each other or being awkward, or them trying to dismiss it as normal but one (or both) of them starts creating distance between them because she realizes that she has feelings for the other and it's scary. I want that high school relationship drama still, but none of that boring straight you're-dating-my-brother bullshit - give me something gay and with lesbians! I'd also dig it if Krista was bi, but I really want lesbian Nadine.

Alternatively, we can also go into future canon where Krista has broken up with Darian, because as much as I hate the whole dating-my-brother plot, I do think the conflict of the movie added more depth to Nadine and Krista's relationship. Nadine and Krista can be working on repairing their friendship, or are kind of distant and not really friends but not not friends either, or they can be best friends again already, your choice really. But I'd like this future canon to be a college future-canon, where maybe Nadine and Krista go to different schools, same schools, have another conflict but this time because of their feelings for each other, all while dealing with the rhythm that is college life.

I think a large flaw of the movie is that while Nadine and Krista's fallout was the catalyst to the entire narrative, the story is centralized on Nadine - which is fine - but doesn't treat Nadine and Krista's relationship like an actual storyline, just a series of events interspersed with other events that make up the distress of Nadine's story. I can understand this storytelling choice, but I would've liked - and here, for Yuletide, would like - for their relationship to be the main plot, not a stressor among other stressors. Whether this comes in the form of as much of an emotional journey as the actual movie, or just an escalation from them being friends (or maybe ex-friends) to something more is up to you.

As an addendum, I think Nadine & Erwin friendship is adorable. I'd like Erwin to be her platonic BFF while Nadine is crushing on Krista (and/or if in Krista's POV, maybe their friendship makes Krista thinks there's more and she's jealous?) It's not a requirement, but if you've got a soft spot for Erwin in any capacity and would like to write him in, feel free to.

I also like the family ~feelings that the movie evokes, but would highly prefer no heavy family angst in a Yuletide fic! Darian being a good supportive brother to Nadine would be nice (post-breakup Darian & Krista can be awkward, but I don't want Nadine or Darian to be resentful to one another for having dated or currently interested in Krista), and Mona trying to be a good mother while Nadine trying to be a good daughter is all I really want. Obviously you don't have to put Darian and Mona in if you don't want to, but if you do these are just the dynamics I'd like to see, partially because healthy family relationships make me weak but also so they don't get in the way of a more Nadine/Krista focused story.

I type Nadine as an INTP (or possibly an ENTP) while Krista is an ESFJ, which makes me weak because they're near opposites and have the same cognitive functions.

A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS

I forgot to put any characters for this before signups ended so this didn't match with anybody (probably?), but in the case someone of interest is reading this, I like Violet/Quigley and Baudelaire-Quagmire friendship. I also just love the Quagmire triplets a lot.

(If you did match with me on this, please let the mods know to contact me so I can expand this section for you!)
